Farewell to Peonies, Hello Roses!

I am always sad to see the Peonies fade away, not to return for another year
Such lovely colors in one bloom

These are the last to emerge.  A couple of posts ago, I shared the peonies which were first in the garden:

First to appear
These next shots are close ups that I took to show the complex detailing of the many petals:

I did not do what I wanted to this year, and that is to cut some of the flowers as they were emerging and bring them indoors.  I understand that it is easier to "dry" them that way.  The fresher the bloom, the better luck in keeping them.

No, instead, I just let them all die away on the plant.  Sigh!

Well, there's always next year, right?

Meanwhile, there is other activity happening in the flower department.  Between the front garden trellis gate and the garage, the foxgloves and snapdragons are going strong.

I wish that post wasn't in the way, but it does hold a bird house:
Rustic birdhouse

This pretty birdhouse has been a garden feature for several years.  I love how it has aged.  Every spring, we get new families moving in. . .

The trellis was designed and built by Carl.  It has a gate on it, and two benches where we can sit and admire this view.

The roses are coming along quite nicely in this area,

Hope everyone is enjoying beautiful weather.

Thank you for the feature, Mimi!

  2. Dear Cynthia, your peonies are jaw-droppingly beautiful! Alas they do not grow in our sub-tropical climate, but at least I can appreciate their beauty through your photographs. Thanks for sharing at Five Star Frou-Frou this week. I hope you'll join me again for the new linkup. Mimi xxx

  5. Oh my Cynthia, your photos are stunning. Your peonies are gorgeous. I too get extremely sad when my peonies fade away. They are so short lived.

    Beautiful garden.

  6. What lovely flowers you have, and what marvelous photos, you take of them...

    What a delightful bird house.

I'm sure the birds don't care, what their abode "looks" like. But your garden is certainly more lovely, for the view of their unique house. :-)

    Gentle hugs,
    Tessa

  11. Hi Cynthia, that is exactly how I feel when my sweetpeas are finished flowering. But I also look forward to cutting my roses and bringing them inside. Peonies are extra special though. I don't think we can grow peonies here in Sydney, it's just too hot.
I am a little surprised coz your snap dragons are taller than what we had here in OZ. Must belong to a different variety.
Thank you for your kind visit. Wishing you a happy week ahead.

    Blessings,
    Aida

  12. Hi Cynthia, your garden is filled with beauty. Love the peonies. They remind me of my mother who grew them beautifully. It's too hot here in Texas and although I've tried, they just don't work out in my garden. Roses love the heat however. Darling bird house. Thanks for stopping by and your sweet comment.
    Have a great week. Blessings

  13. Cynthia, you have a very lovely garden. The kind that is so charming and old fashioned. I hope you don't mind me calling it that but to me that is the ultimate garden. My poor garden didn't do very well this summer. The Lady Banks and the Cecil Brunner outgrew their bounds and broke the trellis so my husband's fix for it all was to cut it all down. I am heartbroken..Have a wonderful week..Judy
