Craving Color In The Garden

This has been an unusual Spring in Northern Ohio.  One week it's mild, the next it's below normal temperatures.  The last 3 weekends have been horrible; rain, 30 degrees, wind. . .so frustrating, because that means no garden time.

And, as I am craving some color right now, I thought I'd share some photos from previous years:
Coneflowers
Coneflowers, Black Eyed Susan, Day Lilies

This is probably from July or August, when the Coneflowers and Day Lilies are blooming, which they do through mid-October.  I have tried to choose things which will guarantee maximum amount of bloom time, plus they should be good performers for this area.

Climbing Roses
New Dawn Climbing Roses

These roses are also all-Summer bloomers for us, and they smell heavenly!  I'm fairly certain they are the New Dawn roses.

Phlox
I may have already shared this next shot, but it's one of my favorites.  This beautiful butterfly was so intent on getting it's nectar, that it didn't fidget while I was snapping away. . .

Swallowtail on Phlox
Snapdragons
Do you like Snapdragons?  Some people HATE them.  I happen to be one who LOVES them, and they are super performers in my garden.  In fact, this year I bought several different varieties (seeds) which are started, and by mid-May, should be ready to plant.
Tall Snapdragons

Can't remember the name of the blue flowers. . .anyone know?  I'm pretty sure they're an annual.  Blue is one of my favorite colors to accent other flowers with.  Most of the patio pots I use are either terra cotta, or various shades of blue.

Trumpet Vine Flowers
There is a trumpet vine climbing on our back deck, which we planted about 10 years ago.  Our property line is quite close to the end of our neighbor's at that point.  They also have some trumpet vines near the edge of their pool, and last year, I took these shots (at different times) of the blossoms floating on the edge. . .

Just a little taste of what the Summer will bring.  I have to admit that I am also looking forward to photographing more this year, too.

And finally:

While composing this post, I was listening to a performance of Puccini's "Tosca" on Sirius XM's Opera channel, with Luciano Pavarotti in the one of the leading roles.  I doubt we'll have another voice like his in our lifetimes.  Do you agree?

Thank you for your visit today.  Thank you to all of my followers, too!  I am at 19. . .maybe I'll have 20 followers soon?

Sharing on:

Pink Saturday
Have a wonderful day!

Cynthia

Thank you for this pleasant visit! What part of Northern Ohio are you from? If I have asked before it eludes me - I am in mid Ohio (northern suburb of Columbus in Delaware County) should you ever get down this way....would love to meet you!

    Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs.

  5. What beautiful flowers! We've had such a weird range of hot/ cold here in California too. New Dawn is my favorite climber, they don't do well here which is why I planted the Cecille Brunner on my FrenchGardenHouse shipping house.😊 I hope your spring will arrive soon!

  8. Hi Cynthia - I certainly hope by now you have better weather and that your new Spring flowers are blooming!

Lovely photos, and I love New Dawn - sadly mine no longer does well on the back fence since my neighbor's southern magnolia grew so huge and blocks the sun. I pruned it back last Fall and it's looking good and green, but no flowers yet!

Thanks so much for your sweet comment today on our friend Nelson who fell from the ladder. He has a lot more repair work coming up later - it was such a terrible break, not just the tibia but the ankle/foot area. He fell from a 30 ft. roof as he stepped back on to the ladder and it slipped sideways and he went with it! I will definitely be giving him your good wishes and thank you for remembering him in your prayers. So sad to hear about that gentleman's terrible accident - it makes one feel so grateful for small mercies of our own.

  14. Hi Cynthia. Your flowers are beautiful. What a wonderful sight to look forward to. We had a trumpet vine at our other house and my hubs always called it "Killer". I have a back fence that would love a 'killer' on it so maybe I'll plant another. Thank you for you kind words to me and I'm glad your son was able to find a good doc also. That must have been really painful for him..Happy Week to you..Judy

  17. What absolutely gorgeous garden photos!! I can only wish I had your talent w/the camera. I'm the one who usually has her thumb in the way of the photo. I happen to love snapdragons, too. But I REALLY LOVED and MISS Luciano Pavarotti. I was in the audience with my opera-singer brother when he made his debut in Philadelphia as Rodolfo in "La Bohème" in the early 70's. What a night that was!! What a voice that was!! I was in the audience with my husband at his farewell performance at the Met in New York as Cavaradossi in "Tosca." We will not see or hear his like again.

Someone once asked me what made Luciano so special, and I said that God has kissed his vocal chords. I truly believe that.

Beautiful post, Cynthia. Delighted to be following you.

    Cheers, M-T
